Maintenance Building Specialist

This Maintenance Building Specialistis responsible for performing daily general grounds maintenance, minor maintenance repairs and basic custodial tasks, administrative activities as it relates to the maintenance department and housing department, such as posting notices and interacting with residents for annual recertification purposes in Snohomish County. 

This position has a social justice component that requires critical thinking through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. In accordance with COVID-19 safety practices, YWCA has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, and all new hires need to be fully vaccinated prior to their first day of employment.  YWCA considers a new hire “fully vaccinated” when at least two weeks have passed after the date the employee received: 

A second dose in a two-dose vaccine series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; or  
A single-dose vaccine, such as the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine.


  • Performs general grounds clean up and garbage management daily 

  • General custodial duties and minor maintenance as needed

  • Reviewing units at move-out to determine maintenance needs

  • Orders/gathers maintenance items needed for unit turns

  • Schedules vendors in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor

  • Keeps workshops organized and reviews inventory levels

  • Assists maintenance staff with admin activities, such as work-order follow-up and preventative maintenance schedules, etc.

  • Performs quarterly property inspections

  • Posts various notices for property managers and housing department

  • In coordination with property managers meets with residents to complete annual compliance paperwork

  • Communicates and coordinates with facilities technicians and property managers daily

  • Attends all Permanent Housing, Snohomish County and other YWCA meetings as assigned.   

  • Actively engages in agency-wide Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI), and strives for racially equitable outcomes; takes responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming community by making room for people of color, trans and gender-non-conforming folks, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions

  • Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring 

  • Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies and procedures; and actively participate in the agency’s Emergency Preparedness program and activities

Qualifications & Core Competencies:
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to multiple sites (Monthly Mileage Reimbursement)

  • Knowledge of landlord tenant laws

  • General knowledge of minor maintenance and repair procedures

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure

  • Strong organization and record keeping skills

  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to work as a part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to use standard hand tools

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills of basic computer competencies such as emailing, calendaring, entry-level data entry and familiarity with Microsoft Office products 

  • Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty

  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist principles

  • Ability to communicate and work with other staff, clients, contractors and residents from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds

  • Experience working on multi-family housing

  • Experience working with the homeless community

  • Experience advancing social and economic justice

Hours, Rate & Benefits:
• Hourly rate: $25.00/hour
• Regular Full-Time, Hours per week: 40
• FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
• Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday and sick leave plans
• At the time of hire, employees may choose to voluntarily enroll in the Fidelity 403b Plan. Typically after two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund.
